Dr. Emilia Jankowska teaches: Marine Ecosystem Restoration

Session Overview

This Deep Dive session transcends surface-level discourse, offering a comprehensive understanding of the ocean's pivotal role in global ecological balance. Dr. Jankowska brings her extensive experience to highlight innovative marine restoration strategies, the science of oceanic carbon sequestration, and the intricate symbiosis within marine ecosystems. Participants will emerge with a profound understanding of both the challenges our oceans face and the cutting-edge solutions paving the way for ocean health restoration.

Learning Goals

  • Symbiosis in Marine Ecosystems: Learn about the delicate balance of marine life and the cascading effects of human intervention on biodiversity and ecosystem services.

  • Understand Ocean-Climate Interconnections: Investigate the intricate relationship between ocean health and climate change, highlighting the crucial role of oceans in carbon sequestration and climate regulation.

  • Identify Ocean Solutions: Highlight impactful ocean-based solutions for mitigating climate change, including regenerative fisheries management, marine conservation, and restoration efforts.

  • Address Ocean Health Challenges: Analyze the pressing challenges facing ocean ecosystems, including pollution, overfishing, and habitat degradation, and explore potential strategies to address these issues in the context of climate action.

  • Emphasize regenerative Practices: Promote regenerative and responsible ocean-related practices, encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly fishing techniques, marine protection measures, and the reduction of plastic pollution to foster a healthier marine environment.

  • Promote Blue Economy Initiatives: Discuss the potential of the blue economy, emphasizing regenerative economic development opportunities that align with ocean conservation and climate resilience goals.
